Young Warriors Football Club (YWFC) today announced that Antiguan vehicular giant, Harney Motors, will be one of the sponsors of the Warriors Cup 2010 after months of negotiations.
A statement from the Club says they are delighted that Harney Motors has decided to assist with the staging of the sixth annual Warriors Cup, which will be contested from August 19-29. The preliminary round takes place at the YASCO Complex from August 19-22 and the final round is set for the Antigua Recreation Ground from August 26-29.
The vehicular dealership is providing financial and promotional support to the tournament.
“The Harney Motors brand will bring significant appeal to the Warriors Cup as we strive to position tournament as a major sports-tourism attraction to the country while assisting with the development and marketing of Antiguan talent,” says Colin James, president of Young Warriors.
Dyna Harney-Barnes, general manager, says Harney Motors has decided to invest in Warriors Cup in keeping with its policy of giving back to the community.
“We have been assisting the Young Warriors over the years and so this year we decided to step up our involvement by becoming a sponsor of the Warriors Cup which we believe will develop into a top event,” Mrs Harney-Barnes says.
Invitations have being extended to a number of Antiguan and overseas clubs to take part in this year’s tournament and an announcement of the participating teams will be made following the close of the registration deadline on July 31.To date, at least four Antiguan clubs and two overseas teams from St Kitts and St Maarten have confirmed their participation.
Over the past six months, the Warriors Cup has being marketed as a sports tourism product in the Europe, England, the United States, Central and South America and the Caribbean and the response from some destinations has been encouraging.
