Ken Klaus Shipley wins Champion of the Month award

Antigua & Barbuda’s Ken Shipley – Search Antigua entrepreneur – is the pick for Champion of the Month at rienet.net – the online home of the Caribbean Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship Network.

The site indicates that Shipley, also a two-time National Youth Award recipient, was selected because “he is using leading edge virtual technologies to take countries in the region global … facilitating connections, both within countries and to the rest of the world and introducing new and innovative solutions that reflect the on-going convergence of technologies – Internet, mobile, video and social networks.”

Asked about this latest accolade, Shipley replied, “I did not know I was selected up until one week before when Ian Ivey emailed me a few questions and told me that he wanted to make me champion of the month … I was not really expecting this … to be honest, I never expect any kind of awards mostly because I am so focussed on the projects that I am currently working on.”

Still, he admitted that the awards make him feel vindicated as often only those closest to him know what he’s up to whether it’s creating the Search Antigua portal, creating similar portals for other Caribbean islands, or creating sites for regional clientele like the Montserrat Tourism Board or the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Shipley took the opportunity during his Daily OBSERVER interview to hint at a new project – a product update for Search Antigua that he hopes to roll out in coming weeks. Meanwhile, he’s preparing for a number of speaking engagements and seminars across the Caribbean.

“In the next three weeks, I will be in three different countries, so right now I am preparing for those events,” Shipley said.

It’s that kind of lifestyle that positions him as a good choice of champion for a database of Caribbean entrepreneurs.
