St. John’s, Antigua (18 December 2008) – Twenty six women of the International Women’s Club of Antigua and Barbuda got packing today for the annual Christmas Hamper Program, which brings much joy to the elderly, handicapped and the needy.
One hundred ninety-two (192) food hampers filled to the brim with cooking oil, peas and carrots, red kidney beans, corned beef, rice, Quaker Oats, cornmeal, pasta, tuna, evaporated milk, flour, Vienna sausages, Milo, teabags, noodles, biscuits and crackers, toilet paper, soap, sardines, fruit salad, apples and sweets, a record for the second straight year, were completed in one hour and a half.
IWC Member Blanche Frank will be delivering 10 food hampers to Barbuda along with toys donated by member Stacy Pierce for the children in the various villages in both Antigua and Barbuda.
Kudos to the nurses who continue to identify the recipients from each Village, and to Hero House for providing their chapel as the venue for packing. Food hampers are also provided to the staff for distribution to families who make HERO House their home. Thanks also to the men who provided the muscle and filled the trunks of the vehicles.
