August 24, 2010, St. Johns, Antigua: A new initiative under the auspices of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is being facilitated through the Environment Division, geared toward to creation of interest about the growing phenomenon of climate change.
The United Nations’ newest venture, through the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is a photo and video contest which encourages participants to capture images which tell an interesting clean development story, under the theme “Changing Lives”.
These stories should show how Antigua and Barbuda, in an effort to mitigate climate change, has done so through the creation of new jobs (e.g. recycling plants), the greening of industry (e.g. energy conservation, reusing where possible), or the development of rural services and infrastructure (e.g. backyard farming, “buy local” marketing).
Under the Kyoto Protocol, Antigua has signed onto an agreement which states that the nation, will work on the implementation of an emission-reduction project. Hence, any project which reduces carbon emissions, focuses on alternative energy, considers the prospects of agriculture, and is sustainable is worthy of this photographic documentation.
Persons interested in participating in the contest will be judged based on the following criteria:
? Creativity and originality
? Composition (technical excellence and quality)
? Artistic merit (wow factor)
? Content and persuasiveness in telling the story of the CDM on the theme “Changing Lives
The deadline for submissions is 20 October 2010. All interested persons should check the UNFCCC website http://cdm.unfccc.int/contest/index.html for more information.
