Antiguan resorts make 'Forbes Travelers' top 400

Jumby Bay and Curtain Bluff Resort and Spa have been featured among Forbes Traveler’s World’s Best Luxury Hotels and Resorts.

Only the top 400 hotels and resorts make this prestigious list and for 2008, Antigua and Barbuda had the privilege of making the list with not one, but two hotel destinations.

On its Web site, Traveler states that Curtain Bluff has been one of the pioneers of Caribbean pampering and has been around since the days of US President John F. Kennedy.

Over the years, Curtain Bluff has managed to maintain its seclusion, its extensive cigar selection and a wine reserve that is about 25,000 bottles strong, an accomplishment that, according to the Web site, makes it the best cellar in the entire region.
It was also stated that in terms of service, Curtain Bluff staff are fast, efficient and rarely overbearing. It also went on to state, “If you do engage the staff in conversation, expect lively discourse – Antiguans are among the most educated people in the Caribbean and crave good debate.”

Curtain Bluff has a total of 72 guest rooms and suites and is the only Antiguan resort that has both tennis and squash courts available.

With regards to Jumby Bay, the Web site states that the resort has taken the private island concept to new levels of luxury and service.

The resort’s 2008 $26 million redesign, which included the addition of a new resort spa, oceanfront infinity pool and renovation of the open-air Verandah restaurant, has raised the already prestigious resort’s standards even higher.

Referred to by the Web site as one of the Caribbean’s most exclusive hideaways, among some of Jumby Bay’s highlights are its complete croquet court and the evening meals hosted in the 230-year-old Estate House, which with its fine white china, tablecloths and “original Colonial-era architecture” makes the dining experience rightfully “the resort’s pride and joy.”

Jumby Bay has 40 rooms, 12 villas and seven homes.
