Antigua Cricket Festival leaves the New York Masters unbeaten!

New York Masters Cricket Club beat Antigua Masters by 29 runs to capture the Antigua Barbuda 20/20 International Masters Cricket Fest 2010 and ended the competition unbeaten.

Batting first, NYM made 141 for 7 off 20 overs. Dixeth Palmer achieved 48 and Charles Walker 36 not out. Wince Smith took two wickets for 19 runs, Alva Joseph 2 for 39, C Frederick 1 for 23 and Vaughn Walsh 1 for 24.

In reply Antigua Masters were bowled out for 114 in 19.4 overs. R Browne struck 24 not out.

Dixeth Palmer captured 3 for 10; Shad Kham 3 for 19 and Hardy James 2 for 28.

Not only did NYM walk away with the Champions Trophy but during the Night with the Stars later that evening at the Stadium, their hard work and determination again came up trumps with Amed Proverbs capturing MVP and Best Batsman; Charles Walker Best Wicket Keeper; Shadi Khan Best Bowler leaving just Best Fielder which was won by Keith Elliott Veterans Sports Club of St Croix.

Sunday was a jam packed day of cricket with the second semi final; Legends Vs Combined Masters; ladies softball titans - Enforcers Vs Bullets; followed by the final. Despite the rain in other parts of the island, the stadium was relatively dry with just the occasional odd short shower which did nothing to dampen the spirits of the players or the crowd.

The organizers of the Fest – Richie Rich Sports and Leisure together with Indigo Event Services would like to say a huge thank you to all the teams; sponsors; volunteers; legends; umpires; scorers and the team at the stadium for all the hard work and commitment that went into ensuring the event took place and was such fun for everyone.

Plans are already underway for 2011 and it is hoped that the event will go from strength to strength as it gains recognition and support both locally and overseas.
