The Antigua & Barbuda Triathlon Association Darkwood Sprint Triathlon a Success.

The Antigua & Barbuda Triathlon Association Darkwood Sprint Triathlon got off to a great start on Sunday 18th July albeit a little late.

Just after 9am , 9 teams and 4 individual participants started the race with a 750 metre swim in calm waters off Darkwood Beach. Exiting the water athletes took to the roads on the 20km cycle ride completing 4 laps of a 5km loop taking them to Sugar Ridge & back. A 5km run completed the course , with 2 laps of a 2.5km loop to Ffryes turnoff and back.

There were plenty of supporters cheering the competitors on and first across the line was team Spartans, swimmer Christal Clashing, cyclist Cosmos Richardson and runner Curvel George in 1:10:13. Following on in close 2nd with a time of 1:12:00 were the Wadadli Torpedos, swimmer Zach Foster with fastest overall swim time of 13 minutes and 55seconds, cyclist Devon Norris, and runner William Rolle with fastest run time of 20mins and 36 seconds. 3rd place was team Danger Zone, swimmer Karin Clashing 0’Reilly, cyclist Abevia McDonald and runner Kirk Anderson in a time of 1:14:35.

Top of the individual participants was Wayne Henry sprinting across the finish in 1:19:51. In second place was Rory Butler in 1:20:26. Andre Simon in 3rd finished in 1:22:56.

Assistance from volunteers to control traffic and waterside safety from the Antigua & Barbuda Search & Rescue team made sure safety measures were in place for competitors. ABTRI would like to thank all those who assisted on the day.
